How to use CAE programs with the CERN Terminal Services

Addressed to user gmarangi but applicable to any other NICE user.

Preliminary requirements

You need:

  • NICE account
  • Activate permission to use Terminal Services (TS) at CERN.  Follow instructions on https://winservices.web.cern.ch/winservices/
  • Login onto machine cerntscae2.cern.ch (also cerntscae1/3/4) using a Remote Desktop Connection. Use your NICE credentials.

Once you are logged, all CAE software at CERN is available on the Win server. You also have access to the following working folders:

G:\Users\g\gmarangi network folder, your default NICE user space on dfs. Useful Public folder in here to share files with other NICE users. Also available on NICE machines as My Documents folder

G:\Services\cdsusers\gmarangi network folder, your working area on cds servers, you have this if you are registered as an electronic developer at CERN

c:\Documents And Settings\gmarangi local folder on the machine you logged on. Can be used for compiling libraries locally to enhance development performance, but of course is different among the various cerntscae0N machines.

Quick Start guide to Cadence IUS software

Launch Start->All Programs->EDA_TOOLS->Cadence IUS5.4->Design & Verification->NCLaunch and choose Multiple Step option

This opens "nclaunch" that is the main user interface to manage design source files and libraries and to launch and use interactively the cadence simulation tools, namely:

  • The vhdl compiler ncvhdl (or ncvlog for verilog)
  • The design elaborator ncelab
  • The design simulator ncsim
  • The simulation browser Waveform editor

To access the sample prova folder, select File->Set Design Directory. Choose:

  • G:/SERVICES/CDSUSERS/GMARANGI/SIMULAZIONI_VHDL/PROVA as design directory.
  • G:/SERVICES/CDSUSERS/GMARANGI/SIMULAZIONI_VHDL/PROVA/cds.lib as cds.lib
  • worklib as work library
